Bifacial solar modules offer many advantages over conventional solar panels. Both sides of a bifacial module can generate electricity, increasing the total power generation. Typically more durable because both sides are UV resistant and reduces potential degradation (PID) issues when double-sided modules are frameless. Balance of System (BOS) costs are also reduced when more power is generated from bifacial modules with a smaller array footprint.

Bifacial modules absorb solar energy from the upper and lower sides of the panel. Traditional opaque backsheet panels are single-sided, while double-sided modules expose the front and back of the solar cells. When the bifacial is installed on a highly reflective surface, such as a white TPO roof or a floor with light colored stones, some bifacial manufacturers claim that the extra power generated from the backside alone can increase the power by 30%.
Bifacial modules are available in a variety of designs. Some are framed, some are frameless. Some are dual glass, while others use a clear back. Most use monocrystalline cells, but there are also polycrystalline cells, one thing that doesn't change is that both sides generate electricity, and true bifacial modules have contacts/busbars on the front and back of their cells.
